Advanced Wound Care

LECOM Institute for Advanced Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine
The LECOM Institute for Advanced Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine located inside Millcreek Community Hospital specializes in the treatment of non-healing, chronic wounds and their co-morbidities. Chronic wounds affect 6.7 million people in the United States and the incidence is expected to rise at a rate of 2% annually over the next decade. An aging population and increasing rate of diseases and conditions such as diabetes, obesity and the late effects of radiation therapy contribute to the chronic wound epidemic.

Focus on the Patient

The LECOM Institute for Advanced Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine, led by Dr. James Y. Lin, offers an evidence-based systematic approach to advanced wound care. Treatment options include negative pressure wound therapy, bio-engineered tissues, biosynthetic dressings, growth factor therapies and Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy. These treatments are the result of a team-based approach between the Center’s physicians, nurses and HBO technicians and the referring physician. A specialized treatment plan is developed and scheduled based on the patient’s condition and needs. Collaboration and utilization of other specialists are utilized as needed.
