JOB TITLE:   NUCLEAR MEDICINE TECHNICIAN

SUMMARY:            Performs a variety of laboratory duties and administers organ or body scans on                              patients with radioactive isotopes to service as a diagnostic aide to physicians, as  directed, according to established standards and practices.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.

 

  1. Administers organ or body scans on patients with radioactive isotopes.

 

  1. Administers isotope dosage accurately following established departmental procedures; accurately records dosage administered. Observes patient during procedure and reports any unusual occurrences to appropriate personnel.

 

  1. Checks equipment, supplies and accessories on a regular basis.

 

  1. Maintains orderliness and cleanliness of work areas.

 

  1. Positions patients on table and explains basic procedure.

 

  1. Transports patients to nuclear medicine room; prepares and maintains room for daily activities.

 

  1. Participates in educational programs and in-service meetings.

 

  1. Attends meetings as required.

 

  1. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Required Certification:                                   Registered in Nuclear Medicine by ARRT or CMNT

Membership of the Stroke team includes mandatory hours of education annually specifically related to diagnosis/assessment and management of acute stroke/ cerebrovascular disease.

 

 

Physical Demands:                                                     Prolonged, extensive, or considerable standing/walking

Lifts, positions, pushes and/or transfers patients

 

Working Conditions:                                                  Subject to electrical and radiant energy hazards
