PGY 1

Patient Care (PC)

Residents will gather a detailed history with complete description of the symptoms
Prioritize patient’s problems
Residents will present without notes if possible
Resident teaches junior residents/medical students the fundamentals of history taking
Resident will be able to perform a complete physical examination
Resident teaches medical students the fundamentals of the time-sensitive P/E
Resident will understand the indications and contraindications for ID and biopsies of skin and other sites such as lymph nodes

Medical Knowledge (MK)

Resident understands the epidemiology, pathophysiology and treatment of common infectious diseases such as: Bacteremia, Endocarditis, HIV/AIDS defining illnesses, Complicated skin and soft tissue infections, Nosocomial infections, Meningitis, Infections associated to prosthetic devices
Resident will become familiar with the ID manifestations of systemic disease

Professionalism (P)

Resident recognizes and takes steps to correct his/her deficiencies
Resident treats team members with respect, including nurses and other health care providers
Resident adheres to all ACGME mandated duty hour restrictions
Resident completes medical records on time
Resident will counsel junior team member on issues of professionalism
Able to delegate responsibility to others

System-Based Practice (SBP)

Resident can effectively initiate the appropriate use of other consultants in the care of patients with infectious diseases
Resident serves as a consultant to other services with moderate faculty input
