Mammographer: Lead Mammography and Radiologic Technologist
DEPARTMENT: RADIOLOGY
REPORTS TO: RADIOLOGY MANAGER
SUMMARY: Produces high quality mammograms using specialized imaging equipment to detect breast abnormalities.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintains established department policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
- Positions patients in accordance with established imaging protocols and performs high quality mammograms. Explain the mammography procedure to patients, ensuring they understand the process and feel comfortable.
- Operate and maintain mammography machines, perform quality control checks to ensure optimal performance.
- Correlate patient’s clinical history with procedure, assuring information is documented and available for reference use.
- Provide superior patient care through explanation of procedures and assist with any questions or needs
- Selects exposure factors following ALARA standards for optimal image quality using minimal radiation exposure.
- Minimizes radiation exposure to self, patients, and others by use of shielding, distance, collimation, and minimizing repeat exposures.
- Maintain accurate patient records and documentation of imaging procedures.
- Strong knowledge of mammography procedures and radiation safety measures.
- Maintains equipment in efficient and safe operating order through visual and performance checks of equipment, supplies, and accessories; problem solves equipment failure and imaging quality and contacts service representative regarding equipment problems.
- Completes all quality checks and ensures that equipment logs are maintained.
- Maintains orderliness and cleanliness of work areas.
- Transports patients to mammography room; prepares and maintains room.
- Request and orders supplies as necessary to keep materials on hand at all times.
- Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops.
- Attends meetings as required.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Course(s)/Training: Graduate of an accredited program in Radiologic Technology with Diploma or Associate Degree
Membership of the Stroke team includes mandatory hours of education annually specifically related to diagnosis/assessment and management of acute stroke/ cerebrovascular disease.
Req. Certification/Registration: ARRT (M) is required
Physical Demands: Prolonged, extensive, or considerable standing/walking
Lifts, positions, pushes, and/or transfers patients
Lifts supplies/equipment
Working Conditions: Subject to electrical and radiant energy hazards
