Endocrinologist

Job Overview: 

The Endocrinologist evaluates and manages disorders of the endocrine system, including diabetes, thyroid disease, adrenal and pituitary disorders, osteoporosis, and lipid disorders. The role emphasizes evidence-based, patient-centered care, interdisciplinary collaboration, and education. 

Key Responsibilities: 

Patient Care: 

  • Diagnose and manage endocrine disorders in outpatient and inpatient settings. 
  • Develop individualized diabetes management plans, including technology (CGM/insulin pumps) where applicable. 
  • Interpret endocrine laboratory and imaging results; perform thyroid ultrasound and FNA if privileged. 
  • Coordinate transitions of care and provide longitudinal follow-up. 

Collaboration & Education: 

  • Work closely with primary care, surgery, oncology, obstetrics, and other teams. 
  • Educate patients on disease processes, lifestyle modifications, and medication use. 

Quality & Safety: 

  • Participate in quality initiatives (e.g., glycemic control, hypoglycemia prevention). 
  • Ensure safe prescribing and monitoring of endocrine therapies. 

Documentation & Compliance: 

  • Maintain accurate, timely EHR documentation. 
  • Comply with medical staff bylaws and applicable regulations. 

Qualifications: 

Education & Training: 

  • MD or DO from an accredited institution. 
  • Completion of an ACGME- or AOA-accredited Internal Medicine residency. 
  • Fellowship in Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism. 
  • Board certification or eligibility in Endocrinology. 

Licensure & Certifications: 

  • Unrestricted Pennsylvania medical license (or eligibility). 
  • DEA registration as applicable. 

Experience & Skills: 

  • Experience managing complex endocrine disorders and diabetes technologies. 
  • Strong communication, education, and care coordination skills. 

Physical Requirements: 

  • Ability to sit/stand for prolonged periods in clinic and hospital settings. 
  • Occasional lifting/moving of equipment up to 20–25 lbs. 
  • Use of PPE as required.
