Infectious Disease Physician
Job Overview:
The Infectious Disease (ID) Physician evaluates and treats a broad spectrum of infectious diseases in inpatient and outpatient settings, supports antimicrobial stewardship and infection prevention, and provides expert consultation to multidisciplinary teams.
Key Responsibilities:
Patient Care:
- Diagnose and manage bacterial, viral, fungal, and parasitic infections, including HIV, TB, hepatitis, and emerging pathogens.
- Conduct comprehensive evaluations and tailor evidence-based treatment plans.
- Provide longitudinal care for chronic infections and immunocompromised hosts.
Stewardship & Infection Prevention:
- Participate in antimicrobial stewardship initiatives and formulary optimization.
- Advise on infection control practices and outbreak response in collaboration with Infection Prevention.
Collaboration & Education:
- Consult with hospitalists, intensivists, surgery, and other specialties on complex cases.
- Educate patients and staff on transmission prevention and treatment adherence.
Documentation & Compliance:
- Maintain accurate, timely EHR documentation and mandatory disease reporting.
- Adhere to applicable laws, regulations, and hospital policies.
Qualifications:
Education & Training:
- MD or DO from an accredited institution.
- Completion of an Internal Medicine residency and ID fellowship.
- Board certification or eligibility in Infectious Disease.
Licensure & Certifications:
- Unrestricted Pennsylvania medical license (or eligibility).
- DEA registration as applicable.
Experience & Skills:
- Experience with antimicrobial stewardship and infection prevention preferred.
- Excellent diagnostic reasoning and interdisciplinary communication.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to move through inpatient units and clinics for extended periods.
- Use of PPE and adherence to isolation precautions as required.
- Occasional lifting/moving of equipment up to 20–25 lbs.
