Neurologist
Job Overview:
The Neurologist diagnoses and manages disorders of the central and peripheral nervous systems, providing inpatient consults and outpatient care. The role includes electrodiagnostic testing as privileged and close collaboration with neurosurgery, critical care, and rehabilitation services.
Key Responsibilities:
Patient Care:
- Evaluate and manage stroke, seizure disorders, movement disorders, neuromuscular disease, dementia, headache, multiple sclerosis, and other neurologic conditions.
- Perform and interpret EMG/NCS and EEG if privileged.
- Participate in acute stroke response and post-stroke care pathways as applicable.
Collaboration & Communication:
- Coordinate care with primary care, neurosurgery, rehabilitation, radiology, and behavioral health.
- Participate in multidisciplinary rounds and tumor boards as applicable.
Quality, Education & Research:
- Educate patients and families on diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment options.
- Participate in quality improvement and maintain CME relevant to neurology subspecialty.
Documentation & Compliance:
- Complete thorough documentation and communicate critical results in a timely manner.
- Adhere to hospital policies, stroke center protocols, and regulatory standards.
Qualifications:
- Education & Training:
- MD or DO from an accredited institution.
- Completion of an ACGME- or AOA-accredited Neurology residency.
- Board certification or eligibility in Neurology.
Licensure & Certifications:
- Unrestricted Pennsylvania medical license (or eligibility).
- NIHSS certification may be required for stroke programs; BLS/ACLS per policy.
Experience & Skills:
- Experience in acute and outpatient neurologic care; stroke management preferred.
- Strong communication, teamwork, and patient counseling skills.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to perform neurologic examinations requiring fine motor skills and positioning.
- Prolonged standing/walking during rounds and procedures.
- Use of PPE as required in clinical areas.
