PRN Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant / COTA

The LECOM Institute for Successful Living, is accepting applications and/or resume submissions for a PRN COTA.
Under supervision of an Occupational Therapist, the Occupational Therapy Assistant administers medically prescribed occupational therapy treatment for patients suffering from injuries and muscle, nerve, joint and bone disease, to restore function, relieve pain, and prevent disability by performing a numbered of required duties for the LECOM Institute for Successful Living, and other LECOM Health entities, in accordance with current applicable federal, state and local standards, regulations, and guidelines to assure that the highest degree of quality care is rendered and LECOM Health’s standard of excellence is achieved.
CHARACTERISTIC JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Review physician orders, patient‘s condition, and medical records;
- Review data from the Occupational Therapy evaluation and plan of care including short and long term goals prior to administering treatment;
- Review effective treatment strategies for areas of Activities of Daily Living and Independent Living Skills with the Occupational Therapist;
- Monitor and communicate patient response to occupational therapy treatment;
- Attend meetings in regards to patient care such as care plan meetings, welcome meetings and daily huddles on an as needed basis;
- Assist the Occupational Therapist with patient at discharge including patient and family instruction in safety, mobility, and function;
- Modify Occupational Therapy treatment and plan of care according to patient’s ability and response as directed by the supervising Occupational Therapist;
- Instruct patient and family in treatment procedures to be continued at home;
- Record treatment, response, and progress in the electronic medical record. Documentation of patients care and services will adhere to accepted regulatory, corporate and professional guidelines;
- Maintain compliance with appropriate therapy minutes, therapy intensity, and productivity standards on daily basis;
- Adhere to all HIPPA procedures and guidelines in accordance with LECOM Health’s standard of excellence;
- Work as scheduled, ready to devote full attention and energy to the important work of LECOM Health;
- Educate the patient and/or caregivers to enhance functional independence;
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications and establishing personal networks;
- Comply with federal, state and local legal and professional requirements;and
- Accept other duties as needed/assigned for the Institution’s needs.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:
- Must possess required knowledge and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal;
- Read, analyze, and interpret electronic medical record, and information of the patient;
- Knowledge of equipment, dispensing, OSHA, Basic Life Support and Infection Control procedures within dentistry or other related field;
- Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment;
- Confident in handling ambiguity and fluid situations and have an abundance of common sense and pragmatism;
- Ability to work with individuals at all levels throughout the organization and throw equal enthusiasm behind routine, hands-on activities, as well as those requiring a higher profile;

- Strong computer literacy and accurate data entry skills;

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and experience equivalent to:
Required: Occupational Therapy Assistant degree from an accredited institution required. Knowledge of OSHA regulations, CDC guidelines, hazardous waste management and disposal and radiation safety. CPR and Pennsylvania license as an Occupational Therapy Assistant required.
