Welcome to the LECOM Center for Memory Impairment and Neurocognitive Disorders (MIND)
The Center for Memory Impairment and Neurocognitive Disorders (MIND) is a place that aims to support people living with dementia and their unpaid caregivers.
We are a center of excellence in memory care that focuses on early diagnosis of neurocognitive disorders (e.g., Alzheimer’s disease, dementia) with advanced diagnostic tools.
When an early diagnosis is identified by our team of expert-trained geriatricians, we implement an early intervention treatment program to stop the progression.
Our team also works to enhance research within the industry for both diagnostic tools and the treatment of neurocognitive disorders.
Mission of the LECOM Center for MIND
The mission of the program aims to deliver key supportive services to people with dementia, including:
- Comprehensive, person-centered assessments and care plans
- Care coordination
- 24/7 access to a support line
- Care navigators who will help caregivers access services and supports, including clinical services and non-clinical services such as meals and transportation
Support and Resources for Caregivers
The Center for MIND also aims to enhance access to the support and resources that caregivers need, such as:
- Evidence-based education and support
- Training programs on best practices for caring for a loved one living with dementia
- Assistance with locating respite services, which enable caregivers to take temporary breaks from their caregiving responsibilities
We also aim to reduce Medicare and Medicaid expenditures primarily by helping people with dementia remain at home, and reducing hospitalization, emergency department use, the need for post-acute care, as well as long-term nursing home care.
