LECOM Millcreek Community Hospital is seeking a Part Time Surgical Tech for our Surgical Services Department.

SUMMARY: Performs a variety of technical duties to assist patients with surgery.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.

2. Maintain aseptic techniques; actively monitors situations which could lead to breaches in aseptic technique.

3. Prepares patient skin for surgery in accordance with hospital standards.

4. Provides comfort and support for pre-operative patients by demonstrating sensitivity to patient’s care and privacy.

5. Transports patients to and from Operating Room suite. Positions patients according to type of surgery.

6. Identifies and cares for specimens.

7. Prepares the Operating Room for cases by setting up table, instruments and supplies according to type of case.

8. Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops.

9. Attends meeting as required.

10. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

MANDATORY/Statutory Qualifications AND education

· Qualifications

o Successful completion of a Surgical Technologist program sponsored by an entity holding nationally recognized institutional or

o Programmatic accreditation and hold and maintains a ST certification from an accredited certification program, or

o Successful completion of appropriate training program for surgical technology in the United States Army, Navy, or Air Force, or

o Provides evidence of an ST certification from an accredited certification program, or o Was employed to practice surgical technology by the health care facility on or before December 29, 2020, or

o Was employed to practice surgical technology as the individual’s primary function in another health care facility at any time during the two years immediately preceding December 29, 2020.

· Education

o An ST employed or contracted with us and not certified or has let their certification lapse shall complete 30 hours of relevant continuing education every two years in order to remain eligible to practice as surgical tech,

o A certified ST will keep their certification in good standing as well as meet or exceed the 30 hours of relevant education every two years.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Education: Post High School Vocational/Specialized training

Physical Demands: Extremely heavy effort (lift/carry 50lbs or more)

Frequent prolonged standing/walking

Lifts, positions, pushes and/or transfers patients

Manual dexterity and mobility

Working Conditions: Exposed to infection from disease-bearing specimens

May be exposed to infections and contagious diseases

Exposed to hazards of handling diseased organs and tissues

Regularly exposed to the risk of bloodborne diseases

Exposed to hazardous anesthetic agents, body fluids and wastes

Exposed to unpleasant elements (accidents, injuries and illness)
